ROBEIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SPORTS POLICY Funding of sports and user fee programs: · Set up a separate line item under the track fund for a sports fund. · Continue to post for the community an accounting of track meet profits and expenditures. · Of the total profits of each track meet, 15% will be allocated to Robein’s extracurricular programs that require the payment of a user fee. Administration and Board: · Explore all options before a parent is hired as a head coach. Parents may be assistant coaches. · Implement a maximum individual dollar amount per student for user fees to be set at 2½ times the user fee (in effect at that time) to be paid in any one school year. · Any student carrying two (2) D’s or more during a grade check or report card will be considered ineligible in the 2005-2006 school year. In school year 2006-2007, any student carrying one (1) D or more during a grade check or report card will be considered ineligible. · Student athletes representing Robein are expected to conduct themselves and dress appropriately when representing Robein at sporting events.
SPORTS PROCEDURES Tryouts for teams (baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, track, scholastic bowl) · Maximum team numbers should be set by the coach prior to that season and communicated to parents and athletes. · All programs requiring user fees will allow grades 5 through 8 to try out. · Mandatory attendance with no unexcused absences will be required for all team tryouts. · Coaches will conduct tryouts and select the number of athletes necessary for each team. · Alternates and managers may be added to all sports teams at the coach’s discretion. Alternates pay ½ sports fee. Managers may have the opportunity to advance to the team if ineligibility/injury occur. · Playing time is solely the coach’s decision, assuming the player meets academic eligibility as defined in the handbook. · Coaches have the right to establish their team rules, in addition to Robein’s rules. The coaches will have the right to discipline, suspend, or remove a player from a team if the player violates the team rules. · It is strongly recommended that the same uniforms are used for seventh and eighth grade teams due to the fact that many students play on both teams. This is to be considered when purchasing new uniforms. Cheerleading specific: · Cheerleading will follow these same procedures except that only students entering seventh and eighth grade will be allowed to try out for the team. In the event that there are not 12 girls trying out from seventh and eighth grades, then the coach has the option to open tryouts to those entering sixth grade. Coach will hold a meeting for all those interested to explain the selection process. Coach will conduct tryouts and select 12 cheerleaders based on top scores regardless of grade. Alternates and managers may be added at the coach’s discretion. Cheerleader alternates pay full sports fee. |
