Sports Committee Policy Report 2008

Funding of sports= and user fee programs:

·= ; = Set up a separate line item under the track fund for a sports fund

expenditure= s

·= ; = Of the total profits of each IESA State Track Meet, approximately 15% will be allocated to Robein’s extracurricular programs that require the payme= nt of a user fee. Purchases of uniforms will be on a yearly rotating basis, according

to the following order: = FY09 =3D Cheerleading & Volleyball

FY10 =3D Baseball

FY11 =3D Basketball

FY12 =3D Softball

FY13 =3D Track

·= ; = The following are the user/sports fees for participation of each student:<= /o:p>

If parents/guardians volunteered time at the IESA State Track Meet during the previous spring, the cost per student per activity is $20.00, $20.00, FREE,= and FREE.

Without volunteered parental/guardian time at the IESA State Track Meet during the previous spring, the cost per student per activity is $40.00, $40.00, $20.0= 0, and $20.00.

Administration and Board:

· Explore all options before a parent is hired as a head coach. Coaches and assis= tant coaches will be required to have criminal background checks and Board =

approval prior to coaching.

·= ; = Refer to Student Participation Form for eligibility.

· Student ath= letes representing Robein are expected to conduct themselves and

dress appropriately when representing Robein at all sc= hool events.

SPORTS PROCEDURES

Tryouts for teams (baseball, softball, volleybal= l, basketball, track, scholastic bowl, and Cheerleading)

· Coaches will conduct tryouts and select a range of numbers for athletes to be

selected for the team.

· All programs requiring user fees will allow grades 5 through 8 to try out, with the=

exception of cheerleading entering grade= s 6-8 only.

· Mandatory attendance with no unexcused absences will be required for all team

tryouts. Excused absences are allowed with coach’s prior knowledge.

Alternates and managers may be added to all sports teams at the coach’s discretion. Alternates pay &f= rac12; sports fee. Manage= rs may have the opportunity to

= advance to the team if ineligibility/inju= ry occurs.

Playing time is solely the coach’s decision, assuming the player meets academic

= el= igibility as defined in the handbook

Coaches have the right to establish their t= eam rules that are approved by administration prior to distribution in addition to Robein’s rules. The coaches will have the right to discipline, suspend, or remove a player from a

= team if the player violates the team rule= s.

It is strongly recommended that the same un= iforms are used for seventh and eighth grade teams due to the fact that many students play on both teams. This is to be considered when purchasing new uniforms.

Students must choose between boys basketball or cheerleading.
