Wacky Kickball- Do you want a high scoring game with a number of twists to the traditional rules of kickball that gives non-stop action and lots of excitement? If your answer is, yes, then Wacky Kickball is the game for you. Wacky Kickball adds one base to the game. It is called the extra-base. All members of the kicking team begin on this base. Once a kick is made the kicker must run to 1st and any and all teammates that choose may run to first, also. Runners must be careful though because unlike traditional kickball, baseball and softball, when a runner leaves the base they cannot go back. They must advance to the next base. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: If the kick is a ceiling kick or a foul ball, the kicker is out and all runners must return to the base they just left. In addition, all runners are required to return to the base on a caught fly-ball; however they can tag up and advance at their own risk. Defensive players can throw the ball at the runners and can in fact get more than one out by hitting multiple players. There are no lead-offs or steals allowed in Wacky Kickball. This game has a lot of running and wild and zany action. It is a favorite of many Robein students and is likely to soon be introduced to the Ivy League.

Knock-Off Hockey or Knock-Off Soccer-These games are high energy favorites of the Robein student body. Students from 1st to 8th grade are gaining fitness through the exercise provided it these Knock-Off games. Students are divided into equal squads. Each team is assigned 2 balls that are mounted on a tee to defend. Each ball is located in the center of a 10 foot by 10 foot area called the box. All players are restricted from entering the boxes. In Knock-off Hockey the object is to knock off your opponent’s balls using hockey sticks with provided pucks while at the same time defending your own. In Knock-Off Soccer the object is to knock off the opponent’s balls with provided soccer balls, while defending your own balls. In both games when both balls of one team are knocked off, play is stopped and the score is tallied. The balls are then replaced upon their tee and play begins again. We use 4 to 6 pucks or 4 soccer balls depending on the age and skill of the players. Players are encouraged to Play Hard, Play Fair and Play Safe. All then have a great time!

Brownies and Fairies-This is one of first games that students learn in kindergarten. Young children love to chase and flee from one another. In this game the girls, who are the Fairies, hide their eyes and the boys, who are the Brownies, sneak up on them. When the announcement, “the Brownies are here!”, is made, the Fairies chase the Brownies to their base. Any boy that was tagged will now join the other team and roles reverse for the next round. Brownies hide their eyes and Fairies sneak up on them.

Ultimate Ball or Ultimate Frisbee-Passing is an essential element of any team sport and these are games that develop student’s ability to pass a ball or Frisbee successfully. In these games the ball is advanced by passing the ball or Frisbee. Players who successfully catch the ball/Frisbee then pass it to another player on their team. The goal is to advance the ball/Frisbee across a touchdown line. When a touchdown is scored, the other team starts with a throw-in. They attempt to pass successfully down the field. If a throw is dropped, the ball/Frisbee is awarded to the other team at the point of the drop. If a drop happens in the end-zone, the ball/Frisbee is returned to where the dropped throw originated. Throws that are intercepted are played by the team that intercepted. Players are to avoid all contact and must allow the player in possession of the ball/Frisbee 3 feet. Knocking the ball/Frisbee out of a players hand is not allowed.

Monkey Island-In this game the monkeys try to run across the gym. They must avoid being tagged by the sharks. If they are tagged, they must sit in the Monkeyspital (hospital) until other monkeys give them the right medicine to cure their monkey blues. The medicine is announced before each game after the monkeys have sung this song: Doctor, Doctor, Tell me the news, We got a bad case of the Monkey Blues. We use a combination of fruit (small balls) that the monkeys harvest from trees (hoops) when they successfully make it across the gym as medicine. We use yellow balls for bananas, red ball for apples, green balls for limes, brown balls for coconuts. A dose of medicine that gets everyone well might be a banana and an apple or a lime and a coconut. Any combination will work The game encourages teamwork and results in a great deal of exercise for monkeys and sharks alike.

Foxes and Rabbits-Vigorous chasing and fleeing coupled with cooperation and teamwork are the ingredients of a successful game of Foxes and Rabbits. The game begins with all the rabbits on one of the four bases. The 5 foxes are roaming the field to see which rabbits they can when the rabbits begin to run from base to base. When a rabbit is caught by a soft tag, the caught rabbit must go sit down in the circle in the middle of the gym. The circle is called the pot. The caught rabbit must remain in the pot until a free rabbit runs safely to the pot and rescues him by taking him by the hand. While the free rabbits and caught rabbit are holding hands, they get safe passage back to a base. If they break hands before reaching a base, the foxes can tag them and send them to the pot. Rabbits can only rescue 1 caught rabbit at a time and must return all the way to a base before returning to rescue a caught rabbit again. After a while, new foxes are appointed and the game continues until all have experienced the joy of both chasing and fleeing. Foxes and Rabbits is a favorite of students K-4.

Moon Monster Tag-The moon monster needs to catch the earthlings, but the identity of the moon monster is only known by the teacher. The moon monster will be revealed by a guessing game. The students will sit in a circle in the middle of the gym.  A clue will be given by the teacher and students will raise their hand to guess the name of the moon monster. If the guess is incorrect, the teacher will add a new clue. When the guess is correct, the teacher announces, “The moon monster is Molly!” Molly immediately gets up, grabs a moon rock (small soft ball) and attempts to tag the earthlings. If you are not the moon monster, you are an earthling. When a student is tagged, they return to circle and sit down. After a brief chase session, the students are called back to the middle to sit down. Molly stands in the corner to await the revelation of a new moon monster.

After the new moon monster is revealed, he joins Molly in a new chase session. After several moon monsters are revealed and chases are participated in, begin a new game.
