January Events
Elephant and Piggie Party-  Kids in preschool through 2nd grade are invited to our Elephant and Piggie Party January 23at 6:30 p.m. We’ll enjoy silly stories, fun games, and a craft!
Chinese New Year-  Join us January 28at 2 p.m. as we celebrate the Year of the Dragon. This free program is open to school-aged children.
Julie K-Itʼs party time! Jam with Julie K and her wonderful world of animals, from the sea to the jungle and everywhere in between, on January 17 at 10 a.m. Coupled with her catchy lyrics for learning, she inspires spontaneous fun! Julie Kʼs eclectic mix of melodies are refreshing and enjoyable for young and old alike. Come and jam with us at this musical party. 
Mommy and Me- When it’s cold and the kids (and mom!) need to get out, come to the library to join mommies and Text Box: their toddlers for an hour of chat and play. Share recipes, crafts, and other ideas while the kids play. Join us January 10 and 24 at 10 a.m

Sick Children
STAY at home—If your child has any of the following symptoms, please keep your child home.  Make appropriate child care arrangements or seek to make a doctor’s appointment (there may be many more health issues which would merit exclusion. 
Runny nose AND a fever, bad cough, headache or nausea, or if the child is too tired or too uncomfortable to function at school.
Persistent diarrhea
Drainage from the ear and/or ear pain
Thick mucus, pus, or clear liquid draining from the eye
A child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
For a noted infestation of lice and nits (eggs), your child may not return to school until they have been treated.

SICK CHILDREN…. send or stay home?
Deciding when a child is too sick to go to school can be a difficult decision to make.  When trying to decide, use the guidelines below and seek the advice of your health care provider.
GO to school--- If your child has any of the following symptoms, they should probably go to school.
• sniffles, a mild runny nose with minimal drainage, mild cough without a Text Box: Any skin rash of unknown cause may be contagious or require medical treatment, especially with fever and itching.
A sore throat, especially with fever or swollen neck glands may be contagious
An ill child who is vomiting should remain home for 12-24hrs after the episode

2nd Quarter Awards 
Assemblies
The second quarter Awards Assemblies will be held on Tuesday, January 24th.  K-4 will be held at 8:15 a.m. and 5-8 will be held at 8:45. Parents are welcome to attend.
8th Grade Information
January 13- Order forms will be sent home for Graduation cap and gown.
January 27- Cap and gown order forms due

Wacky Science- Explore the crazy world of science January 12at 6:30 p.m. This free program is open to Kindergarteners through 5th graders; 2nd graders and younger must bring an adult

Are you in 5th through 8th grade? Do you enjoy reading and want to compete against other libraries to test your knowledge of a selection of books? If so, call the Children’s Department at 699-3917 to join the library’s team for this exciting new  
Story Hours- Story hour sessions resume January 30. Registration is not required, but the library requests that the caregiver has a valid library card and that the child Text Box: appropriate age.  For session times, please call the library at 699-3917.
PTO NEWS
The next PTO meeting will be held on  January 9th at 6:30 p.m.  Please continue sending Box Tops and soup labels!  For the month of November we collected 2020!  1st grade was the winning class with 640 and they earned a pizza party.  Taja MacPhee was the top Box Top student with 420 and received free movie passes.  Thanks to all who ordered Robein Spirit Wear.  We hope to have another order this spring.  
Volleyball
Volleyball season is here and the first home volleyball game will be at 4:15 p.m. on January 17, 2012.  All volleyball team members must go home on practice days and are not allowed to remain at school unsupervised.
